Hornton School has been awarded the prestigious Silver Sports School Games Mark in recognition of its efforts in developing PE and sports competition, both across the school and into the community.
The government-led awards scheme was launched in 2012 and was given to Hornton after it increased the number of PE lessons each week, so that children now come to school in their sports kit on Mondays and Fridays for two hours’ of physical education.
Children have also taken part in competitions with other schools – recently reaching the semi-finals of a cricket tournament, plus swimming, yoga, tennis and dance.
Every child will be given a new sports sweatshirt – partly paid by the PTA selling the lead in the old school windows, which were replaced over the summer.
