William Castle – a Banbury eccentric
An illustrated talk by Stephen Wass of Oxford University. Stephen Wass’s talk will enlighten us about the colourful and somewhat tragic life of William ‘Old Mettle’ Castle. Born in Adderbury, he was a well-known 19th century Banbury character, a canal boatman, street peddler, Morris Men ‘fool’ and mock parliamentary candidate who caused a riot in the town.
