Food For Thought

Hornton Churches Together are once again asking for items of food, plus health and cleaning products, to help families who are struggling in the present economic climate.

The parish church’s Lindy Bridgeman says that food banks in Banbury are having unprecedented requests for help with food costs from struggling families.

“From now until December 22, there are drop off points for food at both Church and Chapel in the porch of each building.

“Donations will go to Banbury each week – to The Pantry at The Sunshine Centre in Bretch Hill on Tuesdays and to St Francis Food Bank on Thursdays.”

The food banks are particularly keen on the following items: tinned meat products, tinned meals, pouches of rice, which are cheaper on fuel than cooking dry rice, packets of jelly cubes, soups, pasta sauces and pasta. Thinner kinds of pasta require less cooking.

There’s also a need for washing up liquid ans personal hygiene products of all kinds, especially children’s shampoo.

“Anyone who would be prepared to help in any way with date-checking, packing or dropping would be most welcome on the team and new ideas would be welcome,” added Lindy.
