Hornton’s new headteacher, Wendy Whitehouse, is delighted with the response to her appeal for villagers to come in and hear children read.
“Thank you – we are so lucky that so many people have volunteered,” she said. “I hope that after half term we will be able to say that a child who comes to Hornton school will read to an adult every week.”
Eleven people have signed up so far and they will all start going into school as soon as they have had the necessary background checks by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
“If you would like to add your name to our growing list please let me know,” added Wendy. “For those volunteers who may be concerned about Covid, in the Summer the reading sessions can be held in the school garden, using our new Outdoor Classroom.”
